# Launching a coin

> Create a coin on Robinhood Chain or Solana during the daily launch window: the steps, the $500 fee, dev buys, coin types, protecting your ticker and editing your coin's info.

Anyone can create a coin on 2hour.fun, on Robinhood Chain or Solana, during the daily [launch window](https://docs.2hour.fun/the-window.md). When the window is closed, you can [reserve a launch](https://docs.2hour.fun/reservations.md) for the next one.

## Creating a coin

**1. Pick the chain**

Open **Create** and choose Robinhood Chain or Solana.

**2. Name, ticker and picture**

Add a name, ticker and picture and, if you like, a description and links (website, X, Telegram).

**3. Choose the pair**

Pick what the coin trades against: ETH or SOL, a stock token or a stablecoin. The pair can't be changed later. See [Chains and pairs](https://docs.2hour.fun/chains-and-pairs.md).

**4. Choose the coin type**

**Normal**, or **Rewards** (Robinhood Chain): a 1%, 2% or 3% reward tax shared with holders every hour. See [Reward coins](https://docs.2hour.fun/reward-coins.md).

**5. Pick your launch options**

Keep your [Dev incentives](https://docs.2hour.fun/dev-incentives.md) or share half or all with holders, choose how long to [protect your ticker](#protect-your-ticker), and whether to [lock your dev buy](https://docs.2hour.fun/dev-lock.md).

**6. Add a dev buy and confirm**

Optionally buy some of your own coin in the same transaction, then confirm in your wallet.

Your coin goes live on its [bonding curve](https://docs.2hour.fun/price-and-graduation.md) straight away.

## The launch fee

Launching costs a flat **\$500**, priced live in ETH or SOL. The Create page shows the exact amount before you confirm. Both chains charge the same fee.

The fee is what makes a launch on 2hour.fun mean something: it makes low-effort copies of other people's coins far less rewarding, and creators earn it back first through [creator fees](https://docs.2hour.fun/fees.md#the-trade-fee-and-creator-fees).

## Creator fees

The 1% fee on every trade of your coin is shared between you and 2hour.fun. You get **80%** of it until you've earned back your \$500 launch fee, then **20%** for as long as the coin trades. Claim your fees from your profile at any time. Your creator dashboard shows what your coins have earned.

Normal coins on Robinhood Chain can also add a **creator tax** of up to 5% that goes to you, under **Advanced** on the Create page.

## Dev buys

A **dev buy** lets you buy some of your own coin in the same transaction as the launch, so nobody can buy in before you.

* On 2hour.fun a dev buy is capped at **50% of the supply**, on both chains, so nobody launches holding almost all of their own coin.
* Whatever you hold shows publicly in the coin's **Dev holds** badge. See [Safety badges](https://docs.2hour.fun/safety-badges.md).
* A dev buy that's held earns holder rewards on a Reward coin, like any other holding.
* You can lock your coins for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or a year, or burn them, so everyone can see you can't sell them. See [Lock your dev buy](https://docs.2hour.fun/dev-lock.md).

## Protect your ticker

When launching, choose how long your ticker is yours: **Off**, **24 hours** (the default), **3 days** or **7 days**. While it runs, any other coin launched with exactly the same ticker, on either chain, isn't listed on 2hour.fun: Explore, Trade and search leave it out. Capitals and "\$" are ignored, so \$SLY and \$sly are the same ticker.

* It starts as soon as your coin is live.
* Create checks the ticker as you type and won't launch or reserve one that's taken, so nobody pays for a coin that wouldn't be listed.
* Anyone can still launch a coin with the same ticker straight from the contracts, so a hidden coin's own page still opens from a direct link.
* Only the exact ticker is covered. Look-alikes aren't hidden, but a coin with the same name or picture is still labelled Copy. See [Original and Copy](https://docs.2hour.fun/original-and-copy.md).
* It isn't offered when reserving: a [reservation](https://docs.2hour.fun/reservations.md) holds its ticker from the moment it's made.

## Editing your coin's info

After launch, you can update your coin's **description** and its **Website, X and Telegram** links. Tap **Edit info** in the coin's About card, or on the coin in your creator dashboard.

* The **name, ticker and picture** stay as launched, so an Original stays the Original.
* The description can be up to 600 characters. Leave a link empty to remove it.
* Edited info shows **Updated by the dev**, with when.
* Only the coin's dev can edit it, signed in to the account that launched it.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Edits show on 2hour.fun. The details written on the chain at launch don't change, so other apps may still show the originals.

## Original or Copy

Your coin's ticker, name and picture are checked against coins launched in the 7 days before it, and older coins that are still trading. If none of them match, your coin gets the **Original** badge. See [Original and Copy](https://docs.2hour.fun/original-and-copy.md).

> [!WARNING]
>
> Launching costs real money and there's no guarantee anyone will trade your coin. Only launch with funds you can afford to lose.
