# Buying and selling

> The trade panel, quick buy, slippage, retries and confirmations.

Buying a coin swaps some of your ETH, SOL or other pair token for that coin. Selling swaps it back. Every trade is a transaction your wallet signs and the blockchain records.

## The trade panel

**1. Open a coin**

Choose **Buy** or **Sell**.

**2. Enter an amount**

Type one, or tap a preset. When selling, you can pick a share of what you hold.

**3. Check and confirm**

The summary shows roughly what you'll get and any tax. Then confirm.

Your trade shows on the chart the moment you send it, and everyone else's trades appear live as they happen. A pop-up tells you when yours is confirmed. If a trade fails, for example because the price moved past your slippage, you'll see why. A failed transaction can still use a small network fee.

## Instant trades

With a 2hour.fun trading wallet, trades go straight through with no pop-up to approve each one. Trades of **\$1,000 or more** ask for a second tap. You can switch that off with **Confirm big trades** in Settings.

## Quick buy

Switch on **Quick buy on Explore** in Settings and each coin card gets a buy button with a preset amount you choose. It uses the same wallet, fees and slippage as the trade panel, with fewer taps. It needs your trading wallet with Instant trades on.

## Slippage

Prices can move in the moment between pressing Buy and your trade being processed, especially when lots of people are trading. **Slippage** is how far you allow the price to move. If it moves further, the trade is cancelled instead of going through at a worse price.

| | Starts at | Presets | Custom |
| - | - | - | - |
| **Buys** | 5% | 1%, 3%, 5%, 10% or 20% | 0.1% to 50% |
| **Sells** | 10% | 1%, 3%, 5%, 10% or 20% | 0.1% to 50% |

Tap **Slippage** at the bottom of any trade panel, or open Settings. Each setting is used for every trade on its side, quick ones too.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Example:** you set slippage to 3% and expect about 1,000 tokens. If the price moves so much that you'd get fewer than 970, the trade is cancelled instead.

A lower setting protects your price, but more trades may be cancelled when things are busy. A higher one lets more trades through, at a possibly worse price.

## When a trade misses its price

> [accordion] A missed sell
>
> If the price moves past your slippage, nothing is sold and you keep your coins. With **Retry missed sells once** on (it starts on) and Instant trades on, the sell goes again straight away, once, allowing more: 10% if it allowed less than 10%, or 20% if it allowed less than 20%.
>
> If that misses too, or the retry is off, the pop-up offers **Try again** and, while a step is left, a button to sell at the next step. The wider slippage is for that one sell only. Your settings stay as they are.

> [accordion] A missed buy
>
> If the price moves past your slippage, nothing is bought. With **Retry missed buys once** on (it starts on) and Instant trades on, the buy goes again straight away, once, with the same amount priced afresh, at the next step up: 1% goes again at 3%, 3% at 5%, 5% at 10% and 10% at 20%. Never above 20%.
>
> It only goes again when nothing was bought, never for a buy the network didn't confirm in time. The wider slippage is for that one buy only.

## Fees on a trade

Every trade pays a **1% trade fee**, plus the coin's tax if it has one, plus a small network fee. See [Fees](https://docs.2hour.fun/fees.md) for the full list.

## Coins paired with a stock token or stablecoin

Some coins trade against a stock token or a stablecoin instead of ETH or SOL. You can still pay with ETH or SOL: the site swaps it for you in the same trade. Or switch **Pay with** to the pair token if you hold it. See [Chains and pairs](https://docs.2hour.fun/chains-and-pairs.md).
